For this post I want to evaluate under what conditions the United States government  can  declare war and what the limits of the president's powers are in this regard. In my opinion, we have a very unstable president who has tested many relations with other countries by displaying his emotions on Twitter. After doing some research, fortunately  I have found that the president of the United States CANNOT  single-handedly declare war on another country. According to the constitution, only  Congress is allowed to declare war.  The Constitution also states that the president of the United States is the commander-in-chief of all branches of the U.S. military, and during times of war, his powers are greatly expanded. This is one of the reasons why Congress is very hesitant to declare war. In order to prevent the president using military action to force the congress to get approval to declare war, Congress approved the War  Powers Act which gives he president the power to oversee military

Commentary on  Kelsey's Government Learning Journey For Kelsey's post, she wrote about her opinion of the impact which celebrities have on polls. I personally have to agree with what Kelsey has to say because as a millennial, I am more likely  to be swayed by media though, I don't see how a celebrity stating his or her political opinion has a large impact on the outcome of polls. I do believe that young people could be inspired to go vote by celebrities but not who people vote for. Celebrity influence on adults is hardly moving as not many adults pay attention to this kind of media. I have also noticed that the celebrities that share most about their political opinions are mostly popular with young people. This could also have an impact on why they don't have much impact on polls, because people who are influenced by their opinion may be too young to even vote. I feel that there should more to the celebrities' opinion than just a simple endorsement just for popula

So far in this blog, I have discussed few interesting topics and have had the opportunity to critique a blog from a completely new perspective. But I have not had the chance to write about my own experience and thoughts on a topic I was passionate about. After brainstorming for a while, I was inspired by the recent shooting which occurred in California 3 days ago. In this blog, I want to write about the importance of gun control in the United States. At the moment, I believe that the government hasn't done much to control gun usage. Instead they fall into the hands of the NRA and create laws that are designed to protect them instead. The very first point I will make is that background checks should be preformed on any person willing to purchase a gun. This part of the process of buying a gun is crucial as it determines if you are capable of handling a gun. According to ProCon.org , Con #7 says that background checks are an invasion of privacy statin g " Background checks woul

For this post, I wanted to try something new and find another blog which expressed a point of view opposite to my own. I read this blog by Ann Coulter "FAKE NEWS AUTOPSY"   which is written to be more inclined towards the conservative party ideology. In this specific blog post, Coulter talks about an incident in which  Ana Cabrera, a journalist for  CNN, intentionally altered a quote which Trump had said regarding the men in America for being accused of something they might not be guilty of. He said "   I say that it's a very scary time for young men in America, when you can be guilty of something that you may not be guilty of. This is a very, very -- this is a very difficult time".Cabrera instead rewrote the president's quote telling CNN viewers  "WHITE men have a lot to fear right now."  Coulter writes about how CNN twists up the truth and what they post is fake news, mainly critiquing Cabrera's word choices in expressing opinion.  In my vie

The other day, I came across an article written by Fareed Zakaria called The Supreme Court tumbles into political dysfunction . about how the supreme court has succumbed into the hands of petty politics. He mentions that without proper checks and balances amongst the three branches of government, the very foundation of democracy has been threatened. Fareed Zakaria is a columnist writing for the Washington Post. He studied in Yale and earned a PhD in Harvard. He received a  Peabody award in 2011 for a program which he and CNN developed. I believe he is a highly credible columnist because of his educational background as well as his breadth of past experiences as an editor, columnist, analyst as well as a host. In my opinion, I feel that this is a very important article for the general audience from both parties, as well as independents to read because it touches upon all the different branches of government and how it can be impacted due to credibility issues. The main reason for this
The BBC is an internationally renowned news corporation that has been publishing unbiased articles on various events. On this day, October 10th, the BBC published a new article asking the fundamental question, "Will Young People Bother to Vote?" . This article suggests that the number of young voters may be higher for this year's Midterm elections in November. The article starts out by saying that historically, young people turnout has always been at a low. But, because of recent events that have been deeply polarizing, they have influenced celebrities, activists from the Parkland shooting and their overall attitude in politics to inspire young people between the ages of 18-29 to vote. This article is very useful to any audience, especially young people as it could encourage them to vote. It provides an opinion as to why the young people turnout might be higher and educates the entire public as to why it may be favorable to have more young people voting.
